What you'll study

The degree requires completion of ten courses. Sample required courses and their focus include:

• BI 5010 Business and Economics for Professionals (Hybrid In-Person, 14 weeks) — foundational economics and business concepts: consumer/producer decision-making, economic indicators (GDP, inflation, unemployment), financial statement interpretation and basic accounting, financial analysis techniques, marketing fundamentals, market research, consumer behavior, and organizational behavior with attention to leadership and teams.
• BI 5050 Programming and Spreadsheet Modelling (SyncFlex, 7 weeks) — core programming concepts (variables, conditionals, loops, functions) and advanced spreadsheet capabilities: data wrangling, pivot tables, queries, arrays/objects/forms, error handling, external data management, data modelling and reporting for business use.
• MBA 5210 Knowledge Discovery using Business Analytics (SyncFlex, 7 weeks) — course listed in program curriculum emphasizing analytics for knowledge discovery (course format provided).

Classes are kept small to enable one-on-one engagement with faculty who have industry experience. Many courses are scheduled to accommodate working students (evening one day a week or online).

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an accredited institution and meet one of the following:

• Completion of at least 15 credits in relevant coursework (statistics, calculus, computer science, information systems, or related quantitative fields); or
• Submission of GMAT or GRE scores.

Required application materials: a graduate application and fee, official transcripts, a current CV or résumé, a personal statement describing academic background, relevant work experience, and motivation for the MSBI, and GMAT/GRE if used to meet eligibility. Applications are reviewed holistically by the MSBI Admissions Committee; processing of a complete application may take up to four weeks. The program’s Fall 2027 application cycle opens October 1 and has a deadline of August 1, 2027 (current Fall 2026 cycle is closed).

The curriculum is intended to prepare graduates to bring data-driven intelligence into their professions by teaching analytical tools and business context.
