What you'll study

The programme integrates licensure and graduate coursework across five semesters (two years plus a summer) and awards a total of 50 graduate credits; teacher candidates complete 43 hours of graduate education coursework as part of the licensure sequence. Entry requirements

• Be hired as a full-time elementary teacher in a Colorado Front Range public school district, public or private charter school, or accredited private school prior to enrollment.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Pass Praxis #5903 – Elementary Mathematics, or obtain an Interim Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education that allows one year to pass the test.
• Meet Colorado Department of Education ALP requirements.
• Submit supplemental documents with the ALP application: resume and a one-page, double-spaced personal statement (12‑point Times New Roman, one‑inch margins, .PDF or .DOC/.DOCX) addressing reasons for pursuing the degree, experiences/qualities that will support study, and reasons for choosing MSU Denver ALP 2 MAT.

Career prospects

Upon successful completion of the ALP 2 MAT program and all required graduate courses, candidates are eligible to apply for an Initial Colorado Teaching license with an endorsement in Elementary Education. The programme is specifically structured for individuals already working as full-time elementary teachers who need a licensure pathway while continuing classroom teaching; outcomes center on attaining licensure and deepening pedagogical knowledge through the capstone and student teaching seminar.
