Programme overview

This Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Production with an emphasis in Stage Management teaches students to organise and lead all production aspects, using technology and collaborative practice to support artists across theatre, dance and opera. The program combines classroom study, departmental productions and professional internships; students gain experience from assistant stage manager roles up to capstone internships with professional companies, including opportunities with the on‑campus Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre.

The curriculum sequence includes introductory theatrical design and production, stage costuming, theatre drawing and graphic arts in the first year; stage management and advanced design and arts management courses in the second year; greater production leadership (stage managing plays, musicals and operas) in the third year; and two capstone internships after faculty evaluation in the fourth year. Students also prepare professional materials (website, cover letters, résumé, portfolio) in Professional Preparation for Design and Production.
