What you'll study

The curriculum focuses on expanding teaching strategies, advancing theoretical knowledge in dance education, and further developing movement skills and approaches to pedagogy. TWU provides a degree plan and a dance course rotation for the concentration. The MADE program supports research into pedagogy and classroom practice and requires demonstration of teaching through video evidence as part of admission materials.

Entry requirements

Applicants follow the TWU Graduate Application process and must meet program-specific supplemental requirements. Key items required for the MA in Dance (Concentration in Education):

• Application via the TWU Online Graduate Application Portal and payment of the application fee ($50 domestic; $75 international), or an eligible fee waiver.
• Official transcripts from each college/university attended (domestic) or a NACES/AICE evaluation for international transcripts.
• Resume documenting dance, educational, and artistic experience.
• A 300–500 word statement of interests and objectives addressing professional goals, relevant experience, and the role of graduate study.
• Writing sample such as a research paper about pedagogy or educational philosophy.
• A YouTube or Vimeo link to a class or series of classes taught by the applicant (include password if needed).
• Contact information for three individuals who can provide letters of recommendation to be requested through the application system.
• Participation in an interview (in person or by phone) when requested by the department recruitment coordinator.

Applicants interested in graduate assistantships should review the Graduate Assistantships Dance webpage and complete the required assistantship application forms. International applicants are advised to submit materials six to eight months before the deadline. The program application deadline is February 1, and admission occurs only every other year for the cohort beginning in fall of even-numbered years.

The program is aimed at dance educators working in K–12 settings, community colleges and universities, community centers and outreach programs, dance studios, and other educational environments.
