What you'll study

The B.S. in Education includes elementary and middle level certification tracks with multiple endorsement combinations. Students learn subject‑area content, methods, and supervised teaching skills required for classroom entry.

• Elementary options (EC–6): EC‑6 Core Subjects; EC‑6 Core Subjects with Bilingual; EC‑6 Core Subjects with Deaf and Hard of Hearing; EC‑6 Core Subjects with ESL; EC‑6 Core Subjects with Special Education; EC‑6 Core Subjects with ESL and Special Education; Accelerated EC‑6 Bachelor’s‑to‑Master’s in Special Education.
• Middle options (4–8): 4‑8 Core Subjects; 4‑8 Core Subjects with Bilingual; 4‑8 Core Subjects with Deaf and Hard of Hearing; 4‑8 Core Subjects with ESL; 4‑8 English, Language Arts and Reading; 4‑8 Core Subjects with Special Education.
• Before enrolling in upper‑division professional courses and clinical student teaching students must have completed or be eligible to enroll in courses such as ECE 3223 & READ 4223 (EC‑3 only), EDUC 3003, EDUC 3482, EDUC 4113, EDUC 4243 and Clinical Student Teaching.

Entry requirements

Admission to TWU requires evaluation of academic achievement and standardized test scores; admission is valid for four terms unless transferring from another institution. To be admitted to the undergraduate Educator Preparation Program (EPP) students must meet additional program criteria before enrolling in specified upper‑division education courses.

• Minimum GPA: 2.75 in at least 12 hours at TWU or a 2.50 overall in the last 60 hours.
• Demonstrated basic skills in reading, written communication and mathematics by meeting Texas Success Initiative requirements.
• Completion of 12–15 semester credit hours in the subject‑specific content area for the certification sought.
• Completed EDUC 2003 with a grade of C or higher.
• Submitted the department application for EPP through SL&L (purchase/creation of an SL&L account required) and a non‑refundable Texas Education Agency fee.
• Signed a Commitment Contract acknowledging the Professional Dispositions Policy and Educators’ Code of Ethics and completed a pre‑admission departmental interview.
• Maintain the admission requirements while in the program; language proficiency minimums apply for bilingual (Spanish) and Deaf/Hard of Hearing (sign) certifications.
• Applicants should be aware that felony or misdemeanor convictions (other than minor traffic violations) may affect certification; records of academic dishonesty, disruptive behavior or professional dispositions infractions can lead to denial of admission.

Applications to the EPP are processed through SL&L on a Fall, Spring and Summer cycle. Key deadlines include: May 1 (deadline to apply for Summer admission) with May 31 for transfer grade submission; July 1 (deadline to apply for Fall admission) with July 31 for transfer grades; December 1 (deadline to apply for Spring admission) with December 21 for transfer grades. Applicants are advised to prepare materials well before deadlines; no late applications are accepted.

Career prospects

Graduates leave the program eligible for Texas teacher certification and are prepared for classroom roles across elementary and middle grades.
