Programme overview

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Chemistry integrates core chemistry coursework with marine science topics to examine the chemistry of the ocean and its interfaces with atmosphere, sediments and bedrock. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary study across biology, chemistry, geology and physics and uses experiential learning to develop problem-solving skills and practical competence. Two chemistry faculty are chemical oceanographers, and faculty-led research opportunities are available.

What you'll study

Coursework combines in-depth chemistry content with marine science concepts that address how biological, chemical, geological and physical processes affect seawater constituents and the transfer and transformation of matter among reservoirs. Training includes laboratory and field-based experiences using facilities such as the Marine Science Field Station (wet and dry labs) and access to powered research vessels, including the BIOS, a 44-foot scuba-ready research vessel.
