What you'll study

The specialization combines theories and debates from multicultural education and anti-racist education. Students analyze multicultural dimensions such as content integration, knowledge construction, bias reduction, equity pedagogy, and creating empowering school cultures, alongside work that directly interrogates racist social structures and institutional practices. The program includes shared transdisciplinary seminars, seminars and individualized study within the specialization, and the research coursework and mentoring needed to produce a practitioner-focused dissertation. Students may take courses in other Antioch programs and may transfer applicable graduate credits.

Entry requirements

The program is designed for working professionals who use educational practice in service of social change; courses are scheduled with working adults in mind. Note: eligibility for the President’s Doctoral Fellowship requires a minimum prior GPA of 3.40 and is awarded to entering doctoral students based on academic performance and work/life experience.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Antioch awards President’s Doctoral Fellowships to incoming doctoral students: the fellowship is a $12,000 award paid equally across the first two registered years. Recipients must remain enrolled full time, maintain academic progress each term, and complete every course in which they register to continue receiving the scholarship.
