What you'll study

The program offers distinct Elementary and Secondary tracks. Candidates complete required education coursework, clinical experiences, and the Graduate Research sequence. Candidates must pass appropriate MTTC tests before beginning research coursework.

• Graduate research coursework (required for the M.Ed.): EN-510 Research Methods, Design & Analysis (3); EN-630 Thesis: Data Collection / Analysis (3); EN-640 Thesis: Publication and Presentation (1). Total program minimum: 36 graduate credits.

Entry requirements

Candidates begin in a cohort and must complete the certification coursework and related clinical experiences. To begin the Graduate Research coursework they must have passed the appropriate MTTC subject-area test(s). All program coursework must be finished within five years of the first cohort graduate course.

Career prospects

Successful completion plus passing MTTC test(s), an approved portfolio, acceptable clinical evaluations, and other certification verifications will allow the institution to recommend candidates for initial, standard teacher certification in Michigan. The residency and internship elements are intended to provide extensive classroom experience for entry into K–12 teaching roles at the elementary or secondary level depending on the track chosen.

Students should explore institutional scholarships, district partnerships, and third-party supports; the program’s collaboration with school districts and community partners may create funded placement opportunities or local incentives. Candidates may also investigate federal, state, and lender-based aid for graduate education and teacher-preparation pathways.
