What you'll study

Courses develop competence in child growth, family and community engagement, assessment, and developmentally effective teaching practices. The program applies Preschool Learning Foundations and other field documents (e.g., DRDP, CLASS, CA Common Core) and explicitly threads topics on children with exceptionalities and classroom technology.

Entry requirements

Applicants submit an application form and fee and must meet academic thresholds: a minimum 2.4 GPA (petitions considered for lower GPAs), two years of postsecondary work with at least 6 transferable units (petitions considered for fewer), and accumulation of 60 units before starting the major.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles in public and private preschools, faith-based early learning programs, and employer-sponsored childcare. The degree also supports further credentials to teach PreK, TK, kindergarten and early elementary grades and special education, and provides foundational preparation for graduate pathways in areas such as social work, counseling with child and family services, or other post-baccalaureate programs.
