What you'll study

The degree requires a minimum of 36 units forming a coherent disciplinary or interdisciplinary focus. Required elements include:

• At least 3 units in biblical, theological, ethics studies or a related area (reflecting the university's Christian commitment).
• A minimum of 4 units devoted to a thesis or project as the culminating experience.
• At least 24 units completed at Fresno Pacific University.
• Six units taken in a setting that provides interaction with others (classroom or online).
• Program content and format negotiated with a faculty advisor and may combine taught courses, independent study or research, tutorials, seminars, or supervised field experience.
• A maximum of 12 units completed prior to admission may be transferred from other accredited graduate programs; no course may be more than 10 years old at the time of IMAP completion.

Entry requirements

Admission is based on review of academic record, work experience, interview and a personal statement. Required application materials include:

• Completed application and $45 non‑refundable fee.
• Official transcripts verifying a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (a final transcript required before enrollment).
• Two references attesting to professional qualities and readiness for graduate work.
• Statement of intent explaining interest, goals and relevant experience.
• Preliminary proposed course of study (2–3 pages) outlining objectives, concentration, background and a summary plan.
• Preliminary program interview to discuss objectives, concentration, key questions, qualifications and ideas for the required thesis or project.
• Writing sample (1–2 pages) demonstrating academic writing ability.

Additional notes from university policy:

• Applicants are expected to have sufficient background in their proposed field; a representative will schedule the interview after transcripts are received.
• If undergraduate cumulative GPA is below 2.75 (4.0 scale), a letter of explanation is required; this GPA requirement is waived for applicants who already hold a master’s degree.
• International applicants must provide English proficiency scores (TOEFL minimum 550 PBT or 79 iBT, or IELTS 6.5), passport/visa information and a statement of financial support.
