What you'll study

The major requires 36–38 units including a core of 28 units and 9 units of biblical literature (with at least 6 units at the 300–400 level). Core courses listed include:

• BIB 520 - The Church and God's Mission in the World (3 credits)
• REL 360 - Religions of the World (3 credits)
• REL 455 - Christians and Religious Neighbors (3 credits)
• THEO 170 - Introduction to Theology and Ethics (3 credits)
• THEO 425 - Theological Ethics and the Environment (3 credits)
• THEO 465 - Theological Ethics of Conflict and Peacemaking (3 credits)

Elective options (8–10 units) are drawn from humanities, history and ministry-linked courses. Examples include ART 330 (Art and Religion), COM 395 (Text and Performance), GRK or HEB courses, HIST 350 (American Religious History), HIST 365 (Ancient Rome), MIN 330 (Disability Ministry Concepts), MIN 378 (Worship Ministries Concepts) and MIN 392 (Biblical Interpretation and Teaching). Faculty teaching the program include professors with expertise in pastoral ministry, missions, literature and archaeology.

Entry requirements

Applicants submit an undergraduate admission application (no fee required for online submission), and must provide official transcripts sent electronically to trans.evaluator@fresno.edu or by mail to the Office of the Registrar at Fresno Pacific University. Recommended high-school preparation includes 4 years of college-preparatory English, 3 years of mathematics, 2 years of social studies, 1 year of lab science, 1 year of performing arts and 3 years of the same foreign language with grades of C- or better. FPU reports accepted students typically have GPAs around 3.2–3.6; prospective applicants should consult an admission counselor about eligibility.

Career prospects

A majority of graduates pursue careers in church or church-related ministry and missions or continue to graduate work in Bible, theology or religious studies. Alumni have also moved into fields such as law, community transformation, business, consulting and teaching where skills in ethical reasoning, interpretation and intercultural engagement are useful.

Prospective students are advised to complete the FAFSA (available beginning October 1). Fresno Pacific's FAFSA code is 001253 and the university encourages applicants to add FPU on their FAFSA. Admission staff can advise on financial aid, scholarships and next steps in the application process.
