Weizmann Institute of Science

9 Programs 3 Degree levels

A research doctoral programme that places students into Weizmann Institute research groups across multiple scientific fields. Best suited to applicants who want to join an active international research community and who can secure a senior Weizmann faculty advisor before applying.

What you'll study

PhD students work directly within research groups at the Institute and pursue original research under the supervision of a senior member of the research staff. The Institute offers a number of different PhD tracks in multiple fields; specific study content is determined by the chosen research group and Board of Studies requirements for that field.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants to the Regular PhD Track should hold an MSc with a thesis or an MD from an accredited institution, or another certificate deemed equivalent by the specific Board of Studies.
  • MSc students enrolled in the WSoS MSc program may apply to transition to the Direct PhD Track toward the end of their second year.
  • Acceptance is contingent on securing an advisor who is a senior-ranking member of the Weizmann Institute research staff; the application file must include a support letter from that potential advisor.
  • If a prospective advisor will be on leave for more than three months during the student's first year, the student cannot start the PhD until the advisor returns.

Career prospects

The programme prepares graduates either to pursue academic research and teaching or to build careers in other scientific and technical sectors, leveraging the Institute’s research environment and facilities.
