What you'll study

The programme promotes research that exploits epistemological and methodological synergies between communication, education and the humanities. Typical doctoral work explores how communicative processes underpin education, the anthropological dimensions of the information society, curricular intersections between humanities and communication, and joint topics that arise from double-degree curricular links. Supervision, thesis preparation and the doctoral candidate experience are organised through the university's Doctoral School and Academic Committee for Doctoral Studies.

Entry requirements

The programme follows the university's access and admissions process for doctoral studies and publishes an annual enrolment period (for 2026–2027: June 8 to September 14, 2026). Prospective students apply through UIC Barcelona's doctoral admissions procedures; specific academic prerequisites and documentation follow the Doctoral School's established rules.

Graduates are prepared to pursue post‑doctoral research and compete for international research funding to build academic careers. Career pathways include leadership roles in cultural institutions (museums, theatres, archives, publishing), cultural management and policy in international organisations (humanities line); research and development, digitalisation and strategic communication roles in journalistic, advertising and corporate settings (communication line); and advisory, management or curricular consultancy roles in educational administrations and institutions (education line).
