What you'll study

The programme lets you set your own thematic focus related to social work beyond national borders. Possible emphases include:

• deeper exploration of experiences of foreignness and difference;
• enhanced regional knowledge about clients' places of origin;
• reflection on personal privilege and understanding of power relations;
• working through ethical and political positions relevant to international social work;
• learning new languages or refreshing existing language skills;
• bringing prior or concurrent international activities or Germany-based intercultural work into the certificate portfolio.

As compulsory elements the certificate requires participation in an English-language course unit and presentation of an international lecture; additional points are earned through courses, talks and practical placements chosen by the student.

Entry requirements

Any enrolled student may start the programme at any time; initial registration is non-binding but recommended for better support and planning. To register, submit the completed application form by email to international-sw@hs-rm.de. Questions about international topics can be directed to the same address and the programme team runs an information session each semester.

Career prospects

The certificate documents intentional international/intercultural training alongside your Social Work studies and can strengthen profiles for roles that require intercultural competence, regional knowledge or foreign-language ability. It is suitable for students aiming at practice or agency work involving migrant or transnational client groups, international NGOs, or placements with a cross-border focus.
