The program includes a core topic, Health Promotion in Public Health, plus elective selections. One topic must be chosen from a first group and two further topics from a broader list. Topics referenced in the course materials include:

Entry requirements

Applicants normally must hold a bachelor degree or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution and have candidature approved by the Dean (Education). Applicants without a bachelor degree may be considered if they can demonstrate relevant professional experience and provide employment experience information in their application. The course is not available to international students.

Career prospects

Graduates are positioned for roles in public health policy, management and practice across local and national health settings. The course lists potential occupations such as Health Promotion Officer, Nutrition Adviser, Public Health Educator and Community Health Officer and identifies employers including local councils, community health organisations, NGOs (for example Heart Foundation, Cancer Council, Lifeline), schools and outreach programs, health departments (areas such as drug and alcohol services, mental health or chronic disease prevention), Primary Health Networks and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Domestic applicants may be eligible for Commonwealth Supported Places that can reduce student contributions by up to 80% off full course fees; availability and conditions are subject to change. The course notes separate indicative fee lines for Commonwealth-supported places and fee-paying places for domestic students.
