Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Counseling. The application includes an online form, essay questions (including demonstration of knowledge about state licensing requirements and needed courses), a resume/CV, a non-refundable $50 application fee, and official transcripts from all institutions attended. Selected applicants participate in an interview with program faculty. GRE or other standardized tests are not required. International applicants and those without a bachelor’s degree must meet additional requirements as specified by admissions.

Career prospects

This certificate is intended to help practicing counselors move toward meeting academic components of clinical mental health or professional counselor licensure in their state. Graduates who obtain necessary state approvals and complete any remaining requirements (exams, background checks, supervised practice) may qualify to pursue licensure and work in clinical mental health settings, private practice, community agencies, schools, or addictions and family services, depending on state scope of practice and individual credentials.
