What you'll study

The curriculum begins with a three-course core (totaling 9 semester hours) and requires 33 semester hours to complete the degree. Full‑time students typically complete the program over two semesters plus one summer. Students select six courses (18 hours) in a chosen concentration drawn from one of three areas:

• Public Administration
• Criminal Justice
• Global Security and International Affairs

To finish the program students must complete either an internship or a thesis (the thesis option is intended for those who plan to pursue a Ph.D.).

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Applicants should demonstrate academic potential, indicated by a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in upper-division coursework and submit GRE or GMAT scores. Candidates with undergraduate degrees outside their intended concentration may be required to take specified undergraduate preparatory courses. Graduates are prepared for roles in government, corporate, and nonprofit sectors. Typical destinations include careers related to law, policy, intelligence, business, education, media, and international affairs, among other applied social‑science occupations.
