Programme overview

Florida A&M University's undergraduate psychology program is offered as either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science and is available online. The department stresses Black/African-centered psychology while preparing students to succeed academically, professionally and culturally. Both degree routes are intended to prepare graduates for advanced study.

What you'll study

Required coursework gives students core knowledge in several areas of psychology. Entry requirements

Before declaring the major, students must complete the following prerequisites with a minimum grade of C: Introduction to Psychology; either Human Growth and Development or EDP 2002 Educational Psychology; College Algebra; and any level BSC (biological science) course. The Bachelor of Arts option additionally requires 12 semester hours of foreign language. To graduate, students must earn at least a 2.00 GPA in each psychology course and maintain an overall cumulative GPA of at least 2.00.

Career prospects

Graduates are positioned for graduate school or for employment in a variety of roles in human services and related sectors. Examples provided by the program include case manager, correctional officer, rehabilitation specialist, research assistant, guidance counselor, mental health counselor, and clinical psychologist (the latter and some counseling roles typically require further graduate training).
