What you'll study

Students complete the M.Div. core and take additional chaplaincy-focused coursework (12 credit hours). Example curriculum topics and courses listed by the programme include:

Course descriptions provided by the programme highlight work on biblical truths and a biblical theory of personality (Theological Foundations of Counseling); defense of Christianity in contemporary contexts (Apologetics); study of major religious belief systems to understand adherent behavior (World Religions); sermon development methodology (Expository Preaching and Teaching); and practical procedures for Old Testament exegesis (Hebrew Exegesis I).

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a four-year bachelor’s degree or an international equivalent from a recognized institution. Graduates of Bible colleges, liberal arts colleges and state universities are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a GPA below 2.5 or degrees from non-accredited institutions may be admitted on academic restriction. Applicants without a bachelor’s degree may be considered if they meet specific ministry experience and research/writing requirements; contact seminary admissions for details. Admission materials include official transcripts (unofficial allowed for initial review if degree is in progress) and one spiritual life reference. International applicants must provide TESOL scores and a financial certificate demonstrating sufficient funding.

Career prospects

The programme prepares students for professional chaplaincy roles in multiple institutional contexts. Career paths listed by the programme include hospital chaplain, military chaplain, prison chaplain, hospice chaplain, workplace chaplain, school chaplain, airport chaplain and Christian camp ministry. The degree also supports pastoral leadership, teaching, preaching, counseling and cross-cultural ministry more broadly.
