What you'll study

Students complete the college's liberal arts core plus a rigorous set of environmental science courses that include classroom, laboratory and field components. Learning experiences include work in local waterways, use of the college field station, participation in internships, and completion of a Senior Capstone project (completed by 100% of majors). Faculty teaching come from Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Philosophy, Economics and related departments, producing a broad scientific education with an applied sustainability focus. High‑achieving students may be eligible for Kappa Alpha Omicron, the national honor society for environmental science.

Entry requirements

Environmental Science is offered as an undergraduate major that complements Marietta College's liberal arts curriculum. Graduates pursue roles in government, industry and nonprofit sectors as conservation specialists, wildlife managers, EPA staff, environmental lawyers, researchers and teachers, among others. Alumni have gone on to graduate programs at institutions such as American University (Law), Brown University (Institute for Environment and Society), Stanford (M.S. Environmental Engineering) and others. Employers of alumni include NOAA/NOAA Corps, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state departments of natural resources and private firms in environmental services and energy.
