Economics majors at Marietta College study the relationship between business and the economy, combining theoretical instruction with mathematical and statistical techniques. What you'll study

Coursework covers economic theory alongside the quantitative tools used to analyse economic questions. Students complete a senior research project (individually or with peers/faculty) and may present that work at conferences and on campus during All Scholars Day. The department also supports internships with local, national and international organisations and participation in activities such as the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley, PioPitch and PioBiz competitions.

Entry requirements

Majors complete the college's liberal arts core in addition to a rigorous major curriculum; specific undergraduate major and minor curricula are maintained by the Department of Business & Economics. The department recognises AP achievement: a score of 4 in AP Microeconomics grants credit for ECON 211 and a score of 4 in AP Macroeconomics grants credit for ECON 212. Students may count approved off-campus study courses toward the major, and the program is flexible enough to permit a one-semester study abroad while completing major requirements.

The department confirms there are scholarships for business-related majors; most departmental scholarships are awarded after a student's first year at Marietta College.
