What you'll study

The programme balances practical studio work, creative composition and critical study. Core technique classes typically include ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz and improvisation, while supplementary courses cover somatic methods, partnering and movement analysis. Students follow coursework in dance composition and choreography, rehearsal and repertory, and choreographic lab experiences that culminate in performance projects.

• Research and capstone: senior capstone or thesis project that integrates performance, choreographic work or research on a focused topic.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised secondary school diploma or equivalent and submit academic transcripts. Admission to the dance programme usually requires an audition, which can be in-person or submitted as a video; the audition assesses technical ability, musicality and performance presence. Applicants are commonly asked for a statement of purpose describing their training and goals, and at least one recommendation from a teacher or dance professional.

Standardised test scores (SAT/ACT) may be optional in many cases; check the university’s admissions guidance for current testing policies. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements if English is not their first language.
