What you'll study

The programme combines core public health and environmental science topics with applied training in assessment and mitigation of environmental hazards. Typical modules cover environmental toxicology, exposure assessment, environmental and occupational health, risk assessment and risk communication, environmental epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental policy and regulation.

Students choose between a practicum/applied project route and a research/thesis route. Coursework emphasises quantitative methods—sampling design, analytical techniques, modelling of contaminant fate and transport—and qualitative skills such as stakeholder engagement and policy analysis. Laboratory sessions, field sampling exercises and a capstone placement with a government, non‑profit or industry partner give practical experience in monitoring, data interpretation and designing interventions.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree with a background in biological, environmental, chemical or physical sciences, public health, or a closely related discipline. Typical supporting documents include official transcripts, a personal statement outlining relevant experience and goals, a CV or résumé, and two academic or professional references. Some applicants may be asked to demonstrate quantitative competency through prior coursework in statistics or chemistry; relevant work experience in environmental health, public health or laboratory settings is advantageous.

Standardised tests are considered on a programme-by-programme basis where required; international applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through an accepted test unless exempt.
