What you'll study

This programme combines foundational science with applied conservation and research methods. Core topics include ecology, conservation biology, watershed and lake ecology, field and laboratory methods, soil science, wildlife management and environmental policy. Students gain quantitative skills through coursework in statistics, data analysis and geographic information systems (GIS), and learn remote sensing basics and map production for natural resource applications.

Learning is heavily field- and lab-based: courses include regular fieldwork on Keuka Lake and surrounding Finger Lakes watershed, stream and wetland assessment, habitat restoration techniques, and species surveys. The curriculum typically culminates in a senior research project or capstone in which students design and complete an independent study or applied research project under faculty supervision.
