What you'll study

The BSN curriculum combines foundational sciences, nursing theory, clinical practice and elective study in administration, research and advanced clinical topics. Early coursework typically covers human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, chemistry, pharmacology, lifespan development and pathophysiology. Core nursing modules address fundamentals of nursing practice, health assessment, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child health, paediatrics, mental health nursing and community/public health nursing.

Later-stage study emphasises clinical decision-making, leadership and evidence-based practice. Students complete supervised clinical placements in hospitals, community clinics and specialised settings across New York City. Concentration options or tracks commonly include:

Competitive applicants present a solid cumulative GPA, relevant volunteer or work experience in healthcare where available, and satisfactory scores on any required entrance examinations or interviews.

Transfer students with college-level credits may apply; community college graduates with an associate degree in nursing seeking the BSN should check articulation agreements within the CUNY system. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements and submit evaluated transcripts.

Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN to become licensed registered nurses.
