What you'll study

The programme combines foundation liberal-arts courses with core social work subjects and supervised practicum placements. Typical modules include Introduction to Social Work, Human Behaviour in the Social Environment, Social Welfare Policy and Services, Research Methods for Social Work, Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families, Group Work and Community Practice, Ethics and Professional Issues, Diversity and Cultural Competence, Mental Health and Substance Use, and a Capstone or Senior Seminar.

Practical learning is central: students complete progressive field practicum hours in partnership with local agencies, allowing application of classroom theory to casework, community organising, advocacy and programme delivery. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a high school diploma or equivalent with a competitive academic record. Typical admissions considerations include GPA, a personal statement outlining interest in social work, and one or more letters of recommendation. Coursework in English and social sciences at secondary level is recommended, and some applicants may be invited to an interview.

Transfer students with relevant college credits are welcome; credits for prior coursework and any approved experiential learning are assessed on an individual basis. Applicants with volunteer or paid experience in human services strengthen their application.

Graduates with a BSW launch careers in settings such as child and family services, school social work, hospitals and health systems, mental health agencies, substance-use treatment programmes, ageing and eldercare services, probation and community corrections, and non-profit organisations. Roles include caseworker, case manager, community outreach worker, residential services staff and programme coordinator.

Many graduates also pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) to qualify for clinical licensure or specialised practice; pathways to licensure and credentialing vary by state and often require graduate-level education and supervised clinical hours.
