What you'll study

The curriculum combines technical, theoretical and applied topics to prepare you for managing information resources and building information systems. Core subjects typically include database design and administration, information retrieval and indexing, data analytics and visualisation, information architecture, human–computer interaction, information policy and ethics, and research methods. Students usually complete a capstone project or practicum that addresses a real-world information problem for a public, private or non-profit partner; research-oriented students can choose a thesis route where available.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold an accredited bachelor's degree. Candidates with degrees in computer science, information technology, library and information science, social sciences or related disciplines are well-suited, but applicants from other backgrounds with relevant work experience and foundational quantitative skills are also considered. Typical application materials include official transcripts, a personal statement outlining academic and professional goals, a current CV or résumé, and letters of recommendation. Some applicants may be asked to demonstrate proficiency in programming or statistics before or during the programme.

International applicants must meet the university's English language requirements and submit recognised test scores or approved alternatives where applicable. The programme may accept applicants with professional experience in place of standard test scores when appropriate.
