What you'll study

The programme combines advanced coursework, research seminars and an independent dissertation to develop expertise in management and operations research. Core study areas typically include advanced research methods (quantitative and qualitative), econometric and multivariate techniques, operations and supply chain management, organisational theory, strategy and decision analytics. Students also take seminars in specialised topics such as service operations, production systems, project management, process improvement, data-driven operations, leadership and change management.

Entry requirements

Admission is selective and aimed at candidates who demonstrate potential for high-quality research. Typical requirements include:

• a relevant master’s degree (for example in business, management, economics, engineering or a closely related discipline) with a strong academic record;
• a personal statement outlining research interests and motivations for doctoral study;
• a research proposal or sample of academic writing that demonstrates analytical ability and familiarity with theory and methods;
• academic references (usually two or three) that speak to scholarly potential and readiness for doctoral research;
• a CV showing relevant work experience, academic achievements and any prior research or publications; and
• where applicable, evidence of proficiency in English for international applicants.

Some applicants may also be invited to interview with programme faculty. Standardised test scores (such as the GRE or GMAT) may be considered if submitted but are not universally required; consult the programme admissions guidance for current policy.
