What you'll study

This program combines core advanced science study with a dedicated Pre‑Medicine stream to build strong knowledge in human biology, disease mechanisms and research skills. You will study foundational biomedical subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, pharmacology and pathology, together with coursework in statistics, epidemiology and research methods.

The course structure typically includes core advanced science units, stream‑specific units for Pre‑Medicine, and a substantial research project or honours‑level thesis that develops experimental design, data analysis and scientific communication skills. Practical laboratory classes, workshops in clinical reasoning and professional development units (covering ethics, communication and interprofessional practice) are commonly included. Elective options allow you to deepen studies in areas such as neuroscience, immunology, genomics and pharmacology, or to take complementary subjects in public health, bioinformatics or health policy.

Assessment modes often combine written exams, laboratory reports, research essays, oral presentations and the final thesis or capstone project. Entry requirements

Admission is competitive and generally requires a strong senior secondary school credential (such as an Australian state certificate or equivalent) with high achievement in relevant science subjects. Chemistry is commonly an assumed knowledge requirement for biomedical streams; mathematics and biology are recommended. International and interstate applicants must meet UTS English language proficiency standards.

Applicants with tertiary study, recognised diplomas or extensive relevant work experience are considered via alternative entry pathways. Meeting the program entry does not guarantee automatic entry to postgraduate medical degrees; graduates who intend to pursue medicine should plan for the additional selection requirements of medical schools (such as graduate entry tests and interviews).
