What you'll study

This programme covers technical IT knowledge together with the business context in which technology is used. You will study modules in programming, databases, web and mobile development, networking and systems administration, plus data analysis and visualisation techniques. Core themes include software development lifecycle, information systems design, IT project management, and cyber security principles.

Across the course you will take practical laboratory and workshop modules to build coding and systems skills, class-based modules that develop analytical and modelling techniques, and business-focused modules that cover strategy, process improvement and digital transformation. In the final year you typically complete an individual honours project or dissertation that applies technical skills to a real business problem, and you may choose specialist options such as enterprise systems, user experience design, cloud computing or advanced data analytics.

The programme often offers a work-placement or sandwich year option (subject to availability) so students can gain industry experience between academic years. Teaching is delivered through a mix of lectures, seminars, labs and assessed coursework, with emphasis on applied projects and team-based development.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a recognised secondary-school qualification such as A-levels, a vocational qualification or an equivalent international qualification.
