What you'll study

The program combines technical, forensic and governance topics to give you a rounded capability in protecting information systems. Core study areas include network and systems security, secure software development, cryptography, incident response and digital forensics, as well as cyber risk, policy and management.

• Cryptography and Information Assurance — principles of cryptography, key management and data protection techniques.
• Digital Forensics and Incident Response — evidence collection, forensic analysis, incident handling and reporting.
• Cyber Risk, Governance and Compliance — risk assessment frameworks, security governance, legal and ethical considerations.
• Practical Labs and Capstone Project — hands-on labs using virtual environments and a culminating project or research unit that applies skills to a real-world cyber security problem.

The degree is offered with flexible study options and may include elective units that let you focus on areas such as cloud security, penetration testing, security architecture or specialised forensic techniques.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor degree in information technology, computer science or a closely related discipline. Applicants with substantial professional experience in IT or security but without a computing degree may be considered and could be required to complete preparatory or bridging units to attain the necessary technical foundations.

All applicants must meet the University's English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate coursework; international applicants should consult USQ for acceptable evidence of English ability. Admission may also take into account relevant professional certifications and work experience in cybersecurity or IT.
