What you'll study

This bachelor programme combines doctrinal study of the law with practical skills training. Core subjects cover constitutional law, civil law (obligations, contracts, family law, property), criminal law, administrative law, commercial law, labour law and procedural law (civil and criminal procedure). Students also take courses in legal theory, jurisprudence, human rights, constitutional procedure, tax law and evidence.

Practical and skills-based components are integrated throughout the degree: legal research and writing, advocacy and oral argument through moot courts, negotiation and alternative dispute resolution, legal drafting, and ethics and professional responsibility. The curriculum normally includes a supervised internship or clinical placement with courts, public agencies, NGOs or law firms, and completion of a final research project or professional thesis.

Entry requirements

• Secondary school completion certificate or equivalent (high school diploma or bachillerato).
• Passing the university's entrance assessment; some applicants may be admitted on the basis of a national exam where applicable.
• Interview and/or written test to assess aptitude for legal studies may be required by the faculty.
• Proficiency in Spanish is essential; applicants whose prior instruction was not in Spanish may need to demonstrate language competence.
• Some applicants may be required to provide a criminal-record check or other documentation for placement in internships involving vulnerable populations.

Typical roles include practising lawyer in private practice, in-house counsel for businesses, legal advisor for public institutions, and roles in public prosecution, defence services or ombudsman offices. With further postgraduate training or professional exams, graduates may become judges, public notaries or specialised practitioners in areas such as tax, corporate law, intellectual property or labour relations.
