What you'll study

The programme covers the theory and practice of airworthiness throughout the lifecycle of aircraft and aerospace products. Core topics include airworthiness regulation and certification processes, continued airworthiness and safety management, structural and systems integrity, reliability and maintenance engineering, human factors and organisational aspects of airworthiness.

• Airworthiness regulation and certification — legislative frameworks, certification procedures for aircraft and modifications, evidence-based compliance and certification project work.
• Continued airworthiness and maintenance — maintenance planning, reliability-centred maintenance, airworthiness directives, continuing airworthiness management and the interplay with operations.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good honours degree (equivalent to a UK second-class honours or above) in aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline. Applicants with a lower-class degree but substantial relevant industrial experience in aircraft maintenance, certification or regulatory roles may also be considered.

Professional qualifications and experience from maintenance organisations (for example relevant Part-66 or equivalent licences), engineering practice or military service are valued and can strengthen an application. All applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate competence in English; the university publishes the accepted test types and minimum scores.
