What you'll study

Coursework spans fiction, poetry, screenwriting and genre writing, pairing rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on mentorship. The curriculum is intended to build advanced literary technique, industry knowledge and publication experience through concentrated study and practical writing projects.

Entry requirements

Students enter the accelerated pathway from an undergraduate English pathway. After completing prescribed undergraduate coursework, General Education and electives and becoming eligible for conferral of the bachelor’s degree, students apply to continue into the graduate portion of the accelerated program—typically in the fall of the junior year.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for careers that include fiction writer, novelist, playwright, screenwriter and roles in higher-education instruction or literary professions such as literary agent work. The program highlights skills useful across writing-related careers, including communication, editing, proofreading and research.
