What you'll study

Your study is research-led: you will develop and complete an extended doctoral project in spatial analysis while engaging with CASA's broader research community. Subject areas highlighted by the centre include complexity theory, smart cities, and modelling social and physical aspects of cities; you may also participate in taught modules offered by the department to support your project.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally need at least an upper second-class (2:1) UK Bachelor's degree and a Master’s degree, or an equivalent overseas qualification, in a relevant subject. Exceptionally, applicants with substantial research or professional experience may be considered without a Master’s. Candidates holding a 2:2 must have a relevant Master’s to be admitted. A strong, convincing research proposal and relevant work experience are highly desirable. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and should be submitted at least three months before your intended start date.

Career prospects

CASA PhD graduates have moved into academic posts at international universities and into influential roles in government and industry. Alumni work as faculty and research centre leads, and in organisations such as geospatial companies, transport authorities and government departments, often advising on policy and applied spatial analysis projects.
