Programme overview

This 120‑ECTS, two‑year Master (taught in French within the UFR Sciences du langage, de l'homme et de la société) trains students to use geographic analysis and geomatic tools to support decision‑making and territorial planning aligned with ecological transition objectives. The course mixes theoretical grounding in territorial dynamics with applied work (projects, case studies, professional interventions) and includes mandatory internships; the second year offers an alternance route.

Teaching alternates lectures, tutorials and collaborative projects and emphasises hands‑on practice (project SIG in M1, integrator project in M2). Key taught items and modules explicitly cited include:

• Géomatique et statistiques (6 ECTS)

• Diagnostic urbain / environnemental dans contexte aménagement (6 ECTS)
• Diagnostic socio‑économique de territoire (6 ECTS)

• Use of professional GIS software: ArcGIS and QGIS
• Techniques of spatial modelling and simulation (applications: ecological networks, urban form analysis)
• Methods: statistics applied to territorial diagnostics, actor‑network and decision process approaches, project management, responding to calls for tender, specialist English

Entry requirements

Admissions are via the national MonMaster platform and are only possible at entry to M1. Candidates must hold a Licence (Bac+3/4) in geography, aménagement, environment or a closely related discipline. Selection is based on academic records, CV and a detailed motivation letter explaining the candidate's professional project. Required prerequisites include solid fundamentals in geography/aménagement/environnement, good command of computer tools for spatial analysis and prior experience with GIS, survey techniques and statistical methods; analytical rigor and data synthesis skills are also expected.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for operational roles such as chargé d'études, project manager, consultant or researcher in sectors including urban planning, transport, energy and environmental management. The curriculum targets abilities to produce precise analyses, anticipate territorial changes and propose actionable strategies for planning and policy projects.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

There is no entrance fee for students holding a scholarship. Standard tuition for initial training follows national rules (Arrêté of 19 April 2019); extracommunity students subject to differentiated fees benefit from a partial exemption reducing fees to the amount paid by EU students for the same diploma (deliberation of 22 October 2024).
