Please note that the provided amounts are subject to change for the academic year 2024-2025. The $25,000 for living expenses is paid to students by the UM International Services Desk. If you choose a different room offered by the University of Michigan Housing, costing an average of $450 per month, it will affect your monthly allowance.
This scholarship is open to domestic and international students of all nationalities. (Except United States, EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam)
About the Scholarship
The University of Michigan's High Potential Scholarship program 2024/2025 is designed to support highly talented international students pursuing undergraduate, master's, or PhD programs at the university. The scholarship provides significant financial assistance, amounting to $35,000 per academic year. This sum encompasses a reduction in tuition fees as well as a monthly stipend for the scholars.
The program comprises two key components: the High Potential Scholarship, which is financially supported by the University Scholarship Fund, and the Albright Scholarship, funded through collaboration between the Vanderbilt Institute and the J. Morgan Grant.
Eligibility for this scholarship is extended to students from outside the United States who have successfully gained admission to the University of Michigan for an undergraduate, master's, or PhD program. To be eligible for this highly competitive scholarship, candidates must:
Hold nationality in a country outside the United States, EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam and fulfill the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the United States.
Not possess double nationality from an EU/EEA country.
Have applied for admission to a participating full-time Undergraduate, Master, or PhD program at the University for the 2024-2025 academic year (participating programs).
Meet the specific admission requirements of the program to which you have applied.
Never have participated in a degree-seeking higher education program in the United States. However, students who have completed exchange programs are welcome to apply.
Not be older than 45 years of age as of September 1, 2023.
Have obtained excellent results in prior education programs, as evidenced by the latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence. In cases where multiple applicants are equally qualified, preference will be given to those ranking in the top 5% of the 2024-2025 scholarship program applicants.
Please note that this scholarship is highly competitive, with only 30% of applicants receiving the award. It is a Partially Funded Scholarship, covering partial school fees waiver and other application fees.
Application Procedure: UM NL-High Potential Scholarship 2024-2025
Note: Only eligible programs listed are considered for the UM NL-High Potential Scholarship. Apply for the program and make a partial tuition payment to receive your student ID.
UM International Services Desk checks completeness of applications after February 1, 2024.
Complete applications are sent to each UM Faculty in February 2024.
Faculties select and rank their top 30% of scholarship applicants, sending the selections to UM International Services Desk for final review in February 2024.
UM International Services Desk confirms Faculty selections by the end of February 2024.
Candidates are informed of their application status (selected, waitlisted, or rejected) by the beginning of February 2024. Waitlisted statuses will be updated by March 2024.
Scholarship awardees receive more information about UM Pre-Academic Training program and arrival upon receiving award letters. The training is a mandatory three-week component in March 2024.
Awardees must sign and return the award letter to the UM International Services Desk to accept the scholarship.
