What you'll study

The curriculum emphasizes both practice and analysis. Study and production opportunities include:

• Acting, voice and movement
• Dance and musical theatre performance
• Directing and play analysis
• Stage management and design (technical and scenic work)
• Theatre history, literature and criticism
• Research, writing, oral performance and presentation skills

Entry requirements

Prospective theatre majors must both apply for admission to the University and audition for acceptance into the BA Theatre program. Auditions are accepted digitally or in person (including at official open house dates) and are submitted via the SpartanStart Portal once an application to UTampa has been made. Applicants should prepare and submit:

• One contemporary comic monologue (maximum 1:30)
• One contemporary dramatic monologue (maximum 1:30)
• One classical monologue, preferably Shakespeare (a pre-18th century piece is acceptable if not Shakespeare)

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for a range of practical theatre roles and related employment. Typical outcomes described by the department include performing in national touring companies, roles in film and regional professional theatres, and full-time work at local theme parks. The program also supports pathways into directing, production, education and design.
