What you'll study

The course is delivered in Arabic and comprises core study in Shariah disciplines such as fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), usul al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence) and topics related to judicial practice (Qada' Shar'i). The programme is listed alongside related Arabic-medium degrees (for example, Usuluddin, Tahfiz & Qira’at) and is structured as a standard four-year full-time undergraduate qualification.

Entry requirements

• Passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) with an average grade of 'Jayyid' or an equivalent qualification.
• Arabic language requirement: International Arabic Language Testing System (IALTS) Band 6.0 OR successful completion of the University’s Arabic Enhancement Programme (AEP).
• English language requirement: pass in English Language at GCE 'O' Level or IGCSE English (as a Second Language), or IELTS score of 5.0, or TOEFL minimum overall score of 500; alternatively pass in English Language at SPUB Examination.
• Applicants must meet the University’s general undergraduate admissions rules (recognised qualifications, submission within allowed sittings and timeframe, possible interview, medical fitness certification). Applicants who do not meet normal academic entry criteria may be considered as mature applicants subject to faculty requirements.

Career prospects

Graduates typically pursue roles that draw on Islamic legal knowledge: positions in religious departments, shariah courts and qada' (judicial) offices, teaching and community leadership, or further postgraduate study in Shariah, law or related fields.

Tuition is quoted at BND$3,000 per year (BND$12,000 for the four-year bachelor programme as shown in the university fee schedule).
