What you'll study

Coursework emphasizes statistics and data-science techniques applicable across disciplines, with specific attention to health-sector problems. Students learn to manage and manipulate data, create visualizations, and apply mathematical, statistical and machine-learning approaches to support decision-making. The program also covers how different countries’ histories, governance, geography, economies and privacy laws influence health systems, and includes participation in planning and executing a data-science project that concludes with evidence-based recommendations.

Equipment note: Students are expected to own a laptop (Windows 10 recommended) with at least 8 GB RAM (16 GB preferred), ~2+ GHz CPU, and a modern graphics card; many students find a second monitor helpful.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree in nursing, science, engineering, psychology or management (other bachelor backgrounds may be admitted subject to diagnostic tests). A basic post-secondary calculus course is highly recommended. Applicants without the listed degree background must pass the Okanagan College Basic Algebra Proficiency Test (minimum 20/25) and the Calculus Readiness Test (minimum 16/25). International applicants require a WES evaluation with the International Credential Advantage Package. English proficiency equivalent to English 12 (minimum 60%) or alternatives is required.
