What you'll study

Core learning centers on synthesizing nursing science and theory into advanced practice, education and policy; collaborating in interprofessional, person-centered care plans; addressing health disparities and population-focused priorities; and applying research for evidence-based practice. Students learn to participate in quality improvement initiatives that promote safety, appraise informatics and health technology within ethical and regulatory frameworks, and develop leadership and professional identity in varied contexts.

Entry requirements

• Completion of an accredited baccalaureate program with a major in nursing, including a course in nursing research.
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2.
• Current, unencumbered Registered Professional Nurse license in New York State.
• Annual physical examination with current immunizations prior to registration for clinical courses (School of Nursing policy).
• Two letters of recommendation addressing academic ability, clinical expertise and professionalism.
• Current curriculum vitae/resume.
• For the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track: documentation of current clinical practice in an acute care setting and a minimum of two years of clinical experience.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared to function as nurse educators or family nurse practitioners and to engage in leadership roles that improve healthcare delivery and population health. The programme prepares students to evaluate and conduct research for evidence-based practice and to participate in interprofessional teams, quality improvement, and organizational planning.
