Programme overview

The Summer Language Institutes (SLI) are concentrated 7-week language programs in Chinese, Japanese or Russian. Participants complete a summer session of classroom and cultural activities focused on rapid language acquisition and cultural awareness. Successful completion grants eight academic credit hours applicable to the 1001–1002 foreign language requirement for most undergraduate degrees at UNG.

SLI combines intensive language instruction with culture-centered activities. The curriculum is designed to move students through a years worth of language study during the seven-week term, emphasizing both linguistic skills and related cultural competence.

Entry requirements

Admission to SLI requires an application. Key dates for Summer 2026 are: application opens October 20, 2025; early application due March 13, 2026; final application due April 15, 2026; program runs June 6July 24, 2026. Career prospects

Completion of intensive language study strengthens communication skills and cultural literacy useful in international business, education, government, and nonprofit work. The credits also help students progress in undergraduate degree plans that require foreign language study.
