What you'll study

The degree requires completion of 34 semester hours split between 18 semester hours in Health and Physical Education and 16 semester hours in core education coursework. Core topics include theoretical foundations, research, educational technology, law and ethics, curriculum, and human diversity. The program extends INTASC standards, NCDPI competencies and aligns with standards from national specialty associations and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Candidates complete an action-based research project that addresses a curriculum or instructional concern in their school setting; the project is shared with building administrators and presented to university faculty and graduate peers.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold an initial teaching license to be eligible. Candidates must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the program and may receive no more than two grades of C.

The program is designed for licensed K–12 teachers seeking advancement as master teachers, curriculum leaders, or specialists in health and physical education. Graduates leave with advanced instructional skills and leadership preparation grounded in accepted state and national standards.
