Programme overview

The Master of Science in Data Science trains students to process, analyze and communicate insights from large and complex datasets. Housed in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, the programme emphasizes interdisciplinary instruction and collaboration with faculty across mathematics, computer science, biology, engineering and business, and offers opportunities to work with local companies in the Memphis area.

What you'll study

Core coursework covers data visualization and management, statistics, programming and machine learning. After the core sequence, students select a concentration in either Business Analytics or Bioinformatics to apply data science methods to a specific domain. The degree concludes with a 6-hour thesis project completed under the supervision of graduate faculty, producing an applied research or industry-focused deliverable.
