What you'll study

The program comprises four courses that emphasize both communication and technical competencies. Topics and tools explicitly included in the program materials are:

• teamwork, communication, idea sharing and collaboration
• integrative thinking and problem solving
• object structure and programming
• data mining, learning and knowledge analytics
• practical software tools such as R, SAS and Tableau

Entry requirements

Admission requires a baccalaureate degree in a related area or equivalent education and experience. You must complete at least 6 of the program's 12 credits through Athabasca University. Application and program admission fees apply.

The program prepares graduates for analytical roles in sectors that rely on data-driven decisions, including health care, business and education. Job titles noted in program materials include data analyst, business intelligence analyst, business analyst, data scientist, data architect, operations analyst, quantitative or statistical analyst, research analyst, analytics manager, systems analyst, project manager with a data focus and data visualization specialist.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Program documentation lists specific fees: a non-refundable program application fee ($201) and a program admission fee payable on acceptance ($265). Course tuition fees (effective for Sep. 1, 2026–Aug. 31, 2027) are shown per three-credit course equivalent as $2,066 for students living in Canada (with a reduced rate for Indigenous students) and $2,316 for students outside Canada; the estimated total if all four courses are taken at AU is $8,264 for a Canadian resident. Other administrative fees (transfer credit evaluation, course extension, withdrawal processing, etc.) are also specified in AU fee schedules.
