What you'll study

From the first introductory courses students engage in laboratory and field investigations. Every biology major conducts independent research and completes either a tutorship or an internship. The curriculum includes advanced human anatomy (Biology 401), which requires dissection work with a human cadaver. Opportunities also include service learning (for example with the local humane society), attending physician rounds at Marietta Memorial Hospital, presenting at regional conferences, and participation in the Biology Club.

Entry requirements

Admission follows the College's undergraduate entry process and the department recognizes AP achievement: a score of 4 on AP Biology awards credit for BIOL 100C. While internships are encouraged, they are not mandatory for graduation; students are supported in exploring Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and similar opportunities through the Career Center and faculty.

Career prospects

An undergraduate degree in Biology from Marietta prepares graduates for graduate or professional study and for immediate employment in roles such as lab technician, medical sales manager, health educator and more.
