What you'll study

The programme builds advanced nursing knowledge across three complementary pathways: Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing. Core study areas typically include advanced health assessment, healthcare leadership and management, healthcare policy and ethics, evidence-based practice, and statistics for health research. Students in the Nursing Administration pathway focus on organisational leadership, financial and human resource management in healthcare, quality improvement and strategic planning. The Nursing Research pathway emphasises research methods, biostatistics, research design, grant writing and translating evidence into practice. The Clinical Nursing pathway deepens clinical decision-making, pathophysiology, advanced therapeutics and practicum-based supervised clinical care in specialised areas.

Teaching combines seminars, case-based learning, simulation lab practice and mentored clinical placements. Students complete a capstone, practicum or research thesis depending on pathway and programme options. The course is offered with flexible delivery formats in many modules, including classroom, blended and online units to accommodate working professionals.

Entry requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the relevant state or eligibility to obtain licensure before clinical placements commence.
• A bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution is commonly required; applicants with an associate degree and substantial professional experience may be considered for bridge or RN-to-MSN pathways where available.
• A competitive undergraduate GPA; programmes typically specify a minimum threshold and consider the academic transcript as part of selection.
• Relevant clinical experience as a practising RN is usually required or strongly recommended, particularly for clinical and leadership pathways.
• Supporting documents such as a personal statement outlining career goals, two professional references (one clinical), and a curriculum vitae/resumé.
• Some programmes may request a short interview and reserve the right to request GRE scores or additional documentation in specific circumstances; international applicants will need to demonstrate English language proficiency.

Common career outcomes include nurse manager, director of nursing, clinical nurse specialist, charge nurse, research nurse or research coordinator, quality improvement officer, and advanced clinical roles within hospitals, primary care, community health, long-term care and specialised clinics. Those on the research pathway often pursue roles in clinical research, policy development or further academic study (PhD/DNP) and may work in academic, government or industry research environments. The administration pathway prepares nurses for senior leadership roles overseeing services, budgets, staffing and quality initiatives.
