What you'll study

This programme combines core training in economic reasoning, statistics and program evaluation with applied coursework and a policy-focused capstone. Core modules typically cover microeconomics for public policy, statistical methods and econometrics, policy analysis and program evaluation, cost–benefit analysis, and quantitative methods for causal inference. Students also study public management, ethics and the politics of policymaking to situate technical analysis in real-world institutions.

Electives allow specialisation across areas such as health policy, education policy, environmental and energy policy, urban and transportation policy, and social welfare. Practical learning is emphasised through a policy practicum or capstone project in which students work on policy problems for government agencies, NGOs, or research organisations, and through internship opportunities that develop professional skills in analysis, communication and stakeholder engagement.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold an accredited bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Strong quantitative preparation—demonstrated by coursework in calculus, statistics, economics, or related fields—is important because of the programme’s analytical emphasis. Competitive applicants submit an academic transcript, a CV, a personal statement explaining policy interests and goals, and two or three letters of recommendation.

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency through accepted tests or equivalent evidence. Admissions committees look for evidence of analytic ability, clear communication, and a demonstrated interest in public policy or public service; relevant work or internship experience can strengthen an application.

Typical roles include policy analyst or researcher in central and local government departments, programme evaluator, analyst at think tanks and research institutes, consultant in public-sector advisory firms, analyst in international organisations and foundations, and roles in advocacy organisations. Increasingly, graduates also move into data-driven roles such as policy data scientist or monitoring and evaluation specialist, where quantitative skills are in demand.
