What you'll study

The MSN curriculum develops advanced nursing knowledge across three pathways: Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing. Core coursework typically covers advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, health assessment, nursing theory and professional ethics, and research methods. Specialised modules depend on the chosen pathway — Administration emphasises organisational leadership, finance for healthcare, quality improvement, and human resources in nursing; Research focuses on quantitative and qualitative research design, data analysis, grant writing and translating evidence into practice; Clinical Nursing includes advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, specialty practicum experiences and care coordination.

Students combine classroom learning with applied experiences. Expect practicum or residency hours in clinical settings for the Clinical Nursing track, leadership projects or organisational practicums for Administration, and a research project or capstone for the Research pathway. The programme can include interprofessional learning, simulation lab work and opportunities to use electronic health records and informatics tools.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution and an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licence in the United States. Typical admissions materials include an academic transcript, a current CV or resume, a personal statement outlining career goals and reasons for pursuing the MSN, and professional references. A minimum undergraduate GPA is commonly expected; applicants with relevant professional experience and strong references may be considered on their merits.

Some applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing but have an RN licence or completed an accredited RN programme may be advised about bridge or prerequisite coursework before full admission. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency and meet licensure eligibility requirements for clinical practicum placements.

Graduates from the Administration pathway typically move into roles such as nurse manager, director of nursing, clinical operations manager or quality improvement leader in hospitals, long‑term care, community health agencies and managed care organisations.
