What you'll study

The Bachelor of Music combines applied lessons and ensemble work with courses in music theory, aural skills, music history, composition and music technology. You will take weekly one‑to‑one instruction on your primary instrument or voice, participate in large and small ensembles, and study conducting, score reading and arranging. Core coursework typically includes a sequence in tonal and contemporary theory, ear training, music history/survey, and technology for music production. Students often choose a focus or emphasis—such as classical performance, jazz, composition, or preparing for music education—and can supplement study with electives in theatre, dance, or recording arts.

Entry requirements

Admission typically requires a completed secondary school credential (high school diploma or equivalent) and submission of academic transcripts. Applicants for the Bachelor of Music must pass a live or recorded audition demonstrating technical skill and musicality on their primary instrument or voice; auditions usually include prepared repertoire and basic sight‑reading or musicianship tests. Prospective students may also be asked to provide a short music theory placement sample, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement outlining musical experience and goals. International applicants will need to meet the university's standard English language requirements.
